In November 2022, AutoStore launched PickUpPort, a public-facing access port that lets customers shop online and pick up their order directly from an AutoStore system. It's the first technology of its kind for the company and operates the same as a regular AutoStore system, with the added innovation of customers being able to directly retrieve their purchases rather than wait for products to arrive at their front door. When a customer places an order and selects in-store pickup, a Controller function signals for the AutoStore Robots to begin gathering the product(s). Once everything is collected, a warehouse operator consolidates the items for holding until the customer arrives. From there, when the consumer arrives at the physical store, a Robot delivers their order directly to them via the PickUpPort. It's a dramatic and highly personalized option that additionally closes the last-mile gap.
